Critter Care: Dog and Cat Nutrition

Off the Bad Food Treadmill

Nutrition is the foundation of health. If you were told that a super-processed food that was devoid of water and had no expiration date could nourish you completely throughout your entire life, what would be your reaction be to its claims of health benefit?

The health of your critters is so important to us that we will give you our exact formulas to make your own whole, organic raw critter food. If you are already feeding a so-called high quality bagged food, the cost of a totally whole, organic, raw diet is about the same if you do it yourself! If you buy your bagged food at a special store, the time investment is probably about the same also! No more special trips to special stores, your critters eat from the same places as you do!

If you want organic whole food nutrition with less of a time investment, we also offer the supplement mix, green drink and the herb mix to add to your own grain, milk and oils (see above for buying these items). Super healthy and super easy food.

Since processed food has only been widely available for about 7 generations of dogs and about 5 generations of cats, we are conducting a frightening experiment on our beloved furry ones. At Bluebird Herbs we do not believe that the backward landslide of health and longevity in critters over the last decades is unrelated to the emergence of bagged critter food.

Companies making critter food are not obligated by law to disclose the specifics of ingredients. For example, the mainstay of dry dog food is vegetable protein, which is nothing more than sweepings and offal from milling room floors. The government agency that is supposed to regulate critter food is the Association of American Feed Control Officials. In their official publication it states that there are no restrictions on the type of animals which can be used in meals, digests etc. Shockingly bagged foods legally can contain cats and dogs!! In the meals and digests, the following ingredients can be used;

spray dried animal blood, hydrolyzed hair, dehydrated garbage, unborn calf carcasses, dried poultry feces and litter, dried ruminant waste, dried swine wastes, undried processed animal waste products, urea formaldehyde.

Even if the critter food you feed does not contain meals and digest, it seems obvious that the regulatory process for disclosing the actual ingredients is, at best, deeply suspect.
